16 GRENADIERS: A HISTORIC KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS 2026: 26 JUL 2026

26 July 2026 will forever remain a landmark in the proud history of 16 GRENADIERS. On the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, as the nation remembered the valour and supreme sacrifice of the heroes of Operation Vijay, the Battalion had the rare privilege of hosting the nation's highest civil and military leadership in the very theatre where history was written.

The Battalion was honoured by the visit of the Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff, the Army Commander, Northern Command, the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, the Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, the Hon'ble Member of Parliament from Ladakh, the Director General of Police, Ladakh, and the President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA).

The dignitaries were received with the warmth and pride that define the ethos of The Grenadiers. During the visit, the Hon'ble Raksha Mantri was briefed on the distinguished legacy of 16 GRENADIERS, its operational achievements, and its steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation's frontiers. The interaction reflected not only the Battalion's glorious past but also its unwavering readiness to meet every challenge in service of the nation.

The Hon'ble Raksha Mantri lauded the Battalion's exemplary professionalism, operational excellence and rich regimental traditions, appreciating the dedication and spirit displayed by all ranks. His words were a source of immense pride and inspiration for every Grenadier.

More than a ceremonial visit, this was a powerful tribute to the bravehearts of Kargil and a reaffirmation of the nation's trust in the soldiers who continue to guard its frontiers under the harshest conditions. It served as a reminder that the spirit which inspired victory in 1999 continues to live in every Grenadier serving today.
