TRIBUTE TO LT COL GNANAKAN AM OF 14 GRENADIERS

With deep sorrow we inform that IC - 21150 Lt Col Gnanakan AM  on 16 Feb 2026 has left us for heavenly abode. He was born on 18 Dec 1938 and commissioned into the Indian Army on 2 Feb 1964 and went on to serve the nation with distinction. He was the member of team that raised the 14th Battalion of The GRENADIERS Regiment on 01 Jan 1965 at Nasirabad, contributing to the regiment’s enduring legacy of valor and discipline. 

Lt Col Gnanakan AM married Mrs. Shyla on 17 May 1971, and together they nurtured a loving family blessed with one son, Mr. Pradeep, and one daughter, Mrs. Priya. After an illustrious career, he retired on 31 Dec 1990 and settled in Belgaum, Karnataka, where he remained a respected figure in his community. 

A soldier, husband, father, and gentleman, Lt Col Gnanakan AM embodied the finest traditions of the Indian Army. His life was a testament to courage, integrity, and devotion to duty. He leaves behind cherished memories and a proud legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. 

Lt Gen Sanjay Mitra, AVSM, Col The GRENADIERS and the entire GRENADIER fraternity convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to the Almighty to bestow them strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude. We also pray to God to grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
